Prof. Francis Ang’awa holds B.Ed. (Science) and Master of Science (MSc) from the University of Nairobi and Ph.D from University of Newcastle (UK). He currently serves as Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Planning, Administration and Finance (PAF) at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. He also served as Principal and Director, Kisumu Campus of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and was previously Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dean School of Education and Social Sciences at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology for a period of five years. He served as a member of Siaya County Taskforce for Establishment of a second University. Prof. Ang’awa has previously served as Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at Maseno University for a period of about five years, one year in acting capacity and the rest as popularly elected Dean. He participated fully in the development of Faculty Strategic Development Plan and in the re-engineering and restructuring of Faculty programmes. He successfully served as Head of Geography Department for a period of six years. He served as a Regional Coordinator, Facilitator and a Trainer for Kenya National Bureau Statistics during the Kenya National Population and Housing Census of August 2009.
Prof. Ang’awa has been involved in various research projects such as sexual maturation project which was funded by Rockefeller Foundation, Baseline Survey of Urban Centers which was funded by International French Research Institute in Africa (IFRA), Gender Sensitization project which was funded by United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Sustainable Management of Got Ramogi Forest project which was funded by the Center for Biodiversity of the National Museums of Kenya, and Eastern and Southern Africa USAID/SERVIR Project. All these attracted huge funds to the University.
In social responsibility, has served as one of the Directors and Chairman of Siaya/Bondo (SIBO) Water and Sanitation Company, member of Board of Governors of several High Schools in Siaya County, member of JOOUST Retirement Benefit Fund (Trustee), SAJOOUST Electoral Board and member of Maseno University Tender Board. He has adequate research experience and published several research findings. He has supervised and examined several postgraduate students and attended several local and International conferences and seminars.
