Erick
is an Associate Professor of Computational Statistics in the Department of
Applied Statistics and Actuarial Science at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University
of Science and Technology (JOOUST), He brings a wealth of expertise and
experience in the field of data science and applied statistics. He is the
founding Director of JOOUST TVET and a former Director, Resource Mobilization
at JOOUST, Kenya. Previously, served as the statistician and R programmer for
the Climate Change Unit at the World Agroforestry Centre – ICRAF in Kenya. He
is also an Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and
an external examiner at the University of Embu. His academic journey includes a
Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from the University
of Nairobi, complemented by a PhD in Applied Statistics from JOOUST, Kenya. He
specializes in the data systems value chain including designing electronic data
collection tools using Open Data Kit (ODK), data management, analytics,
modeling, predictions, prescriptions, and reporting. His skills extend to data
science with proficiency in R and Python programming, data management and
analysis with STATA and Advanced Excel, and database management using MySQL and
Mongo DB for unstructured data. He is also skilled in data visualization using
Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and web technologies. Beyond academia, Erick has
practical experience in policing, acquired from the Kenya Police Training
College in Kiganjo, Kenya. His diverse background has equipped him with a
unique perspective and a robust set of skills which has had an impact on his
research interests. The hands-on experiences and the challenges he faced from a
young age have profoundly influenced his academic and research path, inspiring
him to pursue innovative solutions and contribute meaningfully to statistics,
data science, and beyond.
