Mr. Aboge is currently a
Tutorial Fellow in the Department of Plant, Animal and Food Sciences offering
teaching, and research duties, and other academic roles including offering
research support to postgraduate students in the department. He previously
served as a Graduate Assistant in the school assisting in teaching, research
and community service and worked closely with the chairman of the department in
execution of various administrative and academic activities of the department. He
is a published researcher in refereed journals and serves as a reviewer for
three peer reviewed journals.
His research interests include sustainable food
systems, food security, Nutrients, and Plant genetics. His current research
project, which is a PhD project, is on the introduction of quinoa (Chenopodium
quinoa) for a better food security in the Lake Victoria basin of Kenya,
focusing on developing genetic resources for improved yield and quality of
quinoa. He has also undertaken various
studies on edible insects for food and nutrition security, focusing on
different aspects of their growth and nutritional quality for human and animal nutrition.
Overall, his current research work seeks to promote novel, under-utilized and
neglected food resources for food, nutrition and income security through
research into their adaptability in local conditions, growth and nutritional characteristics
and genes responsible for important traits.
Mr. Aboge has received two scholarship awards from the World Bank
supported African Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Use of Insect as Food
and Feed, and VLIR Institutional University Cooperation (IUC) for his
masters and PhD studies respectively. Mr. Aboge has also received two recognition as a junior and senior reviewer for African Journal of
Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development for his over 4 years of dedication
as a peer reviewer on food security topics.
Previously, he was awarded recognition as the Valedictorian for his outstanding
academic performance in his undergraduate studies at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga
University of Science and Technology
