  • Having achieved a Master degree in Chemistry, I taught Inorganic Chemistry classes at Maseno University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kisii campus as a part time lecturer for two years respectively. During this period, I developed desire and craving for Inorganic Chemistry leading to my PhD in Inorganic Chemistry.
  • I did my PhD at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China. During the entire period, I was the best international student due to my published works in refereed journals. As such, on top of my normal scholarship stipend, I was awarded each year 100,000 Ksh. for my hard work.
  • Due to my determination and hard work, Prof. Schramm from Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen, German donated research equipment to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology amounting to more than 30 million Kenyan shillings in residue value. The market price of the donated items was up to 300 million Kenyan shillings.
  • As an examination officer of the Department of Physical Sciences, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology for the past two years, I have maintained high examination integrity with no cases of cheating reported or detected.
  • As a lecturer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, I personally did the initial drafts of the following academic programs that are currently at the deans committee for implementation: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering; Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Chemistry.
  • During my teaching of Inorganic Chemistry, I realized the difficulty students have in understanding the structure of an Atom. There being no atom models in the market, I personally developed these teaching models and my classes are made easy and enjoyable.
  • My projects at the ASK shows in Kisumu have earned Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology great reputation with several trophies being won.
  • My continued ability to do publishable research with re-known publishers such as Elsevier and springer despite the limited resources at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology has earned me respect from my peers and recognition in Africa to the extent of students being send to me from University of Malawi and University of Yaunde, Cameroon.
  • Collaborations with other researchers in Africa such as South Africa, Uganda, Southern Sudan Germany, United Kingdom and China have helped me to analyze samples using state of the art machines that are not available in Kenya.
  • Being a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry in United Kingdom they have sponsored me for several trainings including hands on training of GC-MS and GC-LC.
  • As the secretary General of Kenya Chemical Society, western chapter, I personally solicited for funds from the Royal Society of Chemistry to train high school prefects in charge of laboratories on chemical safety and security.
  • As a registered teacher by Teachers Service Commission, I abide by the teachers code of ethics and endeavor to transfer knowledge to my students in a professional manner.
  • My research is read by many scientists. Currently, Google scholar shows 387 citations, more than 500,000 reads, h index of 8 and a Research gate score of 21.55 (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=UPHCnM0AAAAJ&hl=en); https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Solomon_Omwoma.
  • I am currently a registered environmental expert by the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (nema); and as such, I manage to mainstream environmental concerns both in my teachings and research work.
