Professor
Thuo is a consummate scholar, academician and
administrator with over 20 years work experience at University levels. Prior to
joining Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, he served
on appointment
by the University Council as acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration,
Finance and Planning) and have also on various times served as acting
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs) at Maasai Mara
University. He had also served in as a Dean for more than five years.
He has
served as an Associate Professor at the Department of Spatial and Environmental
Planning, Kenyatta University. He served Maasai Mara University as an Associate
Professor in Urban and Regional Programme. In addition, he was a Senior Lecturer
at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Department of Land
Resources Planning and Management. Beginning his academic career, he
taught as a Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Environmental
Planning and Management, Kenyatta. Between January 2017 to December 2018- he
served as an Honorary Professor, Western University, London, Canada.
Professor holds a PhD in Environmental
Planning from The University of Waikato, New Zealand; Master of
Environmental Planning and Management (Kenyatta University); Executive MBA from
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology; MSc in Urban Planning
from Sangai International University; and Bachelor of Environmental Studies
(Planning and Management) from Kenyatta University.
He has also undergone a number of
professional trainings in Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, China, Netherlands, Uganda,
Tanzania and Kenya.
At the
Universities where he has worked, he have had served as a member in various University
committees, Chairperson of various University committees. He has raised research and development funds for the
Universities. He has supervised PhD and Masters Students to completion. He is
widely published in local and international refereed Journals. He has initiated a number of subsisting
collaborations with national and international organisations at the
universities.
Other than University experience, he has
also served as a Chairman, County Land Management Board- an appointment by the National Land Commission,
Kenya.
He is a Corporate Member of Kenya
Institute of Planners, and also a National Environment Management Authority
(Kenya) Lead Expert/ Auditor.
