OVERVIEW:
Description of the Programme:

The Bachelor of Library and Information Science program seeks to train students on the management of information system and the techniques of effective organisation of knowledge and use of information resources.

The four year undergraduate course program has been designed to impart students with both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in information organization, access, storage, and dissemination Students learn about cataloging, classification, information retrieval, digital libraries, information technology, and research methods.

Admission Requirements:

a) KCSE Mean Grade C+(Plus) with C (Plain) in Mathematics and Physics or Physical Sciences; OR

b) 2 Principal pass and 1 subsidiary at A- Level one of which should be Maths or Physics;

c) KCSE Mean Grade C-(Minus) with KNEC Diploma in Computer Studies with a minimum credit pass; OR

d) Diploma from accredited Institution.

Programme Learning Objectives (PLOs):

The broad objective of this program is to equip the students with appropriate technical knowledge, skills and develop necessary attitudes in library and information science.

The specific objectives are:

(a) To impart students with knowledge and skills essential to acquire, organize and disseminate information.

(b) To enhance the development of skills in scientific research and writing.

(c) To prepare students for further studies in areas of library, information communication and technology (ICT) and other related fields



STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME:
Duration of the Program:

a) The degree shall normally take four academic years of 8 semesters.

b) Students shall be required to undertake industrial attachment after the 2nd semester of the third year of study.

Graduates can work as librarians, information managers, knowledge specialists, or research analysts.
