Description of the Programme:

The Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education degree is meant to equip its graduates with the ability to identify and stimulate the development of creativity among young children and to produce graduates who are highly skilled and professionally qualified to handle children at the formative years to enable them become useful members of the society. Students learn about child development, early childhood curriculum, assessment techniques, inclusive practices, and family engagement.

Admission Requirements:

a)Candidates must satisfy the minimum university entry requirements of KCSE Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) with a minimum of C(Plain) in both English and Mathematics. OR

b) KCSE Mean Grade C- (Minus) plus a relevant KNEC Diploma or a Diploma from any accredited University in Early Childhood Development. OR

c) Holders of KACE with 2 Principal Passes and 1 Subsidiary. OR

d) 1 Principal Pass and 2 Subsidiaries.

Programme Learning Objectives (PLOs):

The main objective of this programme is to produce graduates with ability to identify and stimulate development of creativity among young children.

Specific objectives of this program are;

a) To equip students with skills that will enable trainees nurture children successfully.

b) To enable students use diagnostic tools in assessment of children with a view to making them become productive and useful members of the society.

c) To equip students with knowledge and skills that will make trainees successful managers of Early Childhood Education institutions and programs.

Duration of the Program:

a) The degree shall normally take four academic years of 8 semesters.

b) Students shall be required to undertake teaching practice of a whole school term of 3 months during the 2nd semester of the third year of study.

Courses Distribution:

At the end of the program, the graduates should be able to work in various settings such as Child Development centers, schools and colleges, Non-Governmental Organizations, community based projects and nutrition centers.
