OVERVIEW:
Description of the Programme:
This programme is designed for advancement and maintenance of a world-class leadership
role in the quest for knowledge by way of quality research, capacity building and innovative
approaches in order to contribute to Public Health through effective public-private
partnership.
Admission Requirements:
Candidates wishing to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health programme at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology must meet the following requirements;
a) Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Public Health of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology
b) Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Public Health or an equivalent academic qualification from any other recognized institution.
c) Fulfill specific requirements as may be stipulated by the Department,
Programme Learning Objectives (PLOs):
The programme will develop human and infrastructural capacity for innovative research, training, technology development in Health related issues.
On successful completion of the program the students should be able to:
a) Learn to evaluate the theories, research, and ethical parameters guiding public health practice
b) Assess the efficacy public health programs and practices.
c) Gain knowledge and skills in epidemiological research, research leadership, and community advocacy.
d) Demonstrate skills in designing and conducting original research in Public Health
STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME:
Duration of the Program:
a) The PhD by Coursework and Research course shall normally take three academic years full-time offered by a combination of unit method, independent research and thesis.
b) The PhD shall take 5 academic years when offered on part-time basis.
